A Big Player Through A Small Lens: The OMV and natural gas through an East-Austrian lens

Resumen

This seminar paper inspects the representation of the fossil fuel company OMV in connection with natural gas in the socialist regional newspaper “Burgenländische Freiheit”. The paper addresses the question of how the OMV is presented in connection with natural gas in the regional newspaper throughout the Second Republic. The paper proposes that the newspaper mainly discusses natural gas from an economic perspective and that the OMV is framed as acting according to federal state interests, while the oil company frames itself as environmentally friendly mainly by advertisements.
