Abstract

Volunteer Fire Departments and Memory Spaces: Monuments, Rituals and Commemorative Publications

This bachelor thesis is a contribution to the research field of the history of associations and clubs. It deals with volunteer fire departments in South Tyrol. Based on Pierre Nora’s concept of memory spaces (“lieux de mémoire”), relevant memory spaces of volunteer fire departments will be located and their importance for the legitimacy and identity of said departments will be analysed.
